Our Story

Shutter Studios is an artist studios and collective based in Canton, Cardiff founded by Caitlin Dolman in the beginning on January 2023. After leaving her previous studios space Red Door Studios when they closed she struggled to find a spaces with availability in Cardiff. Any she did find were too expensive for her to reside in along side the growing cost of living crisis. Caitlin decided that the art supplies that had been boxed up and abandoned in her flat needed a home. After finding a space in Bridge Studios, Canton, they cleared and established Shutter. This being in hopes to expand the creative community with competitive and affordable residency spaces to encourage young and emerging welsh based artists to be within a studio community. We hope that moving into spring of 2023 we will be able to host events, open studios and workshops with our residents to further the progression of their practice and making.
